Be Different, Think Different, Act Different…

Hi there! Can I tell you a little story? About 25 years ago, I ditched the concept of ‘estimates’ in favor of something entirely different – ‘Business Audits.’ Yep, you heard that right!

You see, I noticed that almost every service provider out there – whether they’re in plumbing, electrical work, pest control, painting, you name it – they all seem to be offering free estimates. Then, their potential customers would just compare those estimates and, most often than not, opt for the lowest price. It’s a race to the bottom, really.

But I wanted to break the mold. So instead, I decided to conduct ‘Business Audits.’

Here’s what it looked like:
I’d go into businesses and meticulously evaluate the state of affairs. I’d examine everything, asking questions like: What kind of services or products are you offering? How old is the business? What’s the customer acquisition strategy? What marketing techniques have been used? How often is the business strategy reviewed and updated?

I then coined a term: “Business Age". I’d tell the business owner the “Business Age’ of their business based on my audit, along with a forecast of how their business would fare if they implemented my suggested strategies.

Guess what happened? This approach wasn’t just different; it was transformative.

By conducting these Business Audits, and giving clients a sneak peek into the process with a free initial consultation, it increased the average sale for every business I worked with by 25%.

Yes, you heard that right. A 25% boost in revenue. Not because of a miraculous quick fix, but simply because of how the process was packaged and presented.

The clients were fully educated on the difference between this and just a run-of-the-mill price quote. It was ethical, effective, and profitable for all parties.

The lesson here?
Shifting from estimates to audits is a brilliant way to stand out from the crowd.

It could work for almost any business. Remember, differentiation is a game-changer.
