Hey I get this question all the time… let me explain… and tell you what it is NOT…
A mastermind group is a small group of people who help each other achieve their goals through brainstorming, accountability and support. However, there are some things that a mastermind group is NOT, such as:
It’s not a class. A mastermind group is not a place where you learn from a teacher or a curriculum. The main focus of a mastermind group is the peer-to-peer interaction and collaboration among the group members. You can invite guest speakers or experts occasionally, but they are not the core of the mastermind group.
It’s not a coaching session. A mastermind group is not a place where you get coached by the facilitator or the other members. The facilitator’s role is to guide the discussion, not to give advice or instructions. The other members’ role is to share their perspectives, not to tell you what to do. You are responsible for your own decisions and actions.
It’s not a networking event. A mastermind group is not a place where you exchange business cards or pitch your products or services. The purpose of a mastermind group is to build trust, rapport and friendship among the members, not to sell or promote anything. You can refer businesses to each other outside the mastermind group, but that’s not the main goal.
It’s not a support group, but let me explain… a mastermind group is not a place where you vent your frustrations or complain about your problems. The purpose of a mastermind group is to help you overcome your challenges and achieve your goals, not to dwell on the negative aspects of your situation. You can share your struggles and emotions, but you also need to be solution-oriented and action-oriented.
It’s not a one-time event. A mastermind group is not a place where you meet once and then forget about each other. The purpose of a mastermind group is to create long-term relationships and mutual support among the members, not to have a one-off interaction. You need to commit to meeting regularly and staying in touch with your mastermind group.
